It’s so easy to be in a world full of negativity and difficulty when things are challenging. We seem to find it easier to focus on what is not working possibly making life much more difficult for us. When we worry too much, we can create fears over ‘bad’ things that have not happened yet.
In reality, about 90% of our lives are very good but we can sometimes lose perspective in the struggle. Therefore it is good to change our perception away from all the negativity.
One way to break this cycle is to focus on the good things that we have. This will make us feel better and better able to focus on the challenges we face.
Example
One powerful way to transform negativity is to acknowledge it – it does feel real right now and has come up to show you something that you don’t want.
Now the negative thought has your attention, ask yourself, ‘What do I want instead?’
An example would be a thought that says, ‘I have no time to do anything’.
Ask, what do I want instead? – the answer – time to do things I want. Now you can look and see how you can put something in for yourself and maybe not do other things that are not so important.
Homework
Sit quietly and see what negative thoughts come easily to you. Take the first one and change it from want to don’t want to what you do want?
Ask yourself how can you take one small step to make the situation a little bit better for you? Set yourself a deadline to make that change. If you make this process a habit, you’ll be surprised how quickly your life begins to change for the better.
